Lights! Camera! Um, Jason DeRulo?

Let’s go over how refreshing it is to have a ONE! HOUR! PERFORMANCE! SHOW!  I hardly know what to do with my evening!  (Perhaps call my Dad for his birthday…Happy Birthday, Dad!)  Hopefully there will be some memorable and fantastic performances coming up.

1. JESSICA SANCHEZ

I Have Nothing by Whitney Houston

Very pretty, solid performance.  Poor girl had to tackle those stairs clad in her stilettos twice – once in the intro, and once in the song.  Kind of cruel, huh?  She did seem a bit nervous, and I wasn’t feeling any heart in this performance.  Here’s hoping things look up the next two rounds.

RATING:

2. PHILLIP PHILLIPS

Stand By Me by Ben E. King

Proficient, but not anywhere near epic.  He needed something bigger and badder than this.  At least we learned that Simon Fuller sucks at song picking.

RATING:

JASON DERULO

Undefeated

The choreography was good – the vocals not so much.  The song was marginally catchy, though.  And at least he is out of the neck brace!

RATING:

3. JEssica Sanchez

The Prayer by Josh Groban

AMAZING!  Her emotions bled through my television and gave me chills.  She makes it look absolutely effortless.  If that isn’t a winning song, I don’t know what is.  You know I went back to watch this one again (twice!)

RATING:

4. PHILLIP PHILLIPS

Movin Out by Billy Joel

Really?  This was his best performance of the season?  I enjoyed the soprano sax and all, but I know he had better “winning song” choices that were magic moments on the show.  Not “finale” impressive.

RATING:

5. JESSICA SANCHEZ

Change Nothing (Original Song)

She sang the crap out of a crappy song…I hate that the judges gave her any criticisms for song choice – like she had a say in the matter…please.  That said, she did what she could with the song, the white piano, and the lucite steps.  But her moment was definitely round 2.

RATING:

6. PHILLIP PHILLIPS

Home (Original Song)

Now on the flip side Phillip got the perfect song for his single.  There was a drumline, and everything–the P2 version of the gospel choir effect.  At least this has some mainstream potential.

RATING:

+1/2

If Jessica doesn’t win this with her performance of The Prayer, there is seriously no hope for women on Idol.  That was a beyond stellar winning performance, and I would love to see the confetti drop to that tomorrow.  But realistically, Phillip and his tweeting kidney stones are probably going to win. And if that does happen, at least he has a relevant and fitting song to sing.  Plus, being called “Home,” it will be the farewell song for next season…way to think ahead Uncle Nigel.
So, do we think Jessica can get the underdog win?  Or is a P2 victory inevitable?

Philip’s voice is boring! There are so many male singers out there with the same singing style as his.  We love jessica’s angelic voice for a change. We’ll surely buy her albums win or lose.

I don’t really think Jessica has much to offer in “new and original”.  I watched her last night and I thought I was watching Whitney all over again.  Even the body manerisms- she haas that down.  Same with the Mariah Carey sounding and acting Prayer song.  When they finally gave her something she could own- no one to copy- she flopped big time.  I rate her as a REALLY good Karioki singer.  I believe Philip has originality and one of those voices like John Mayer.  Not saying that Jessica can’t sing- she just isn’t original.  Also, it really irritated me to watch her immitate Whitney Houston so close to her death and an icon that should be remembered for her beautiful voice and performances.   Maybe Jessica can try out for the movie part.

It’s obvious that american idol isn’t a singing competition. Jessica is a much better singer than Philips. I Find it amusing when people commented Jessica sounded like mariah, whitney blah blah blah. This is the quality of true great singer and since when it’s become a critiCism? What funnier is her voice texture is not even similar to whitney, mariah and all that. The way Philip sings is not new in the music business, many have done that, and now he’s original?

I guess When people talk about creativity, they are looking for something like crazy frog, bing bing bang bang wawawa kakaaka.

WHAT – Laura doesn’t have anything to say?  YES! Philip won and rightfully so.  Jessica did another “look at me I’m… (insert whoever she is mimicking tonight)”  and there you go.. the girl doesn’t know who she is yet.  Philip was really good and I was glad that America felt the same way.  Glad the judges were WRONG with their bias comments and GLAD that Philip, a poor guy can now get his kidney surgery.  Hats off to this guy who performed under such pain.  He DESERVED the win.   Jessica is a REALLY good singer , but needs to find who she is and then she will go big.   She needs a few more years on the “all her life” and she will do well in R&B .
